At Joe’s Layover Hostel, we understand that planning your trip can come with many questions.

That’s why we’ve compiled the most frequently asked questions from our guests to help you have an unforgettable experience at our hostel. From details about our facilities to local activity recommendations, you’ll find all the information you need to make the most of your stay in Boquete.

Check-in at Joe’s Layover Hostel starts at 3:00 pm. If you arrive earlier, no worries! You can leave your luggage with us and start enjoying our facilities while we prepare your room.

Check-out is at 11:00 am. However, you don’t have to leave right away; feel free to stay and enjoy the rest of the day at the hostel. We’ll store your luggage and you can settle your tab whenever you’re ready to depart.

Our private rooms are designed to accommodate a specific number of guests, and the price is adjusted according to the number of people indicated at the time of booking. We cannot add extra mattresses or cushions, nor allow more guests than permitted in the rooms.We also have shared dormitories with 4, 6, and 8 beds that can be rented out entirely for a slumber party with you and your pals!Out of fairness to all our guests, if any additional people are found staying in a room, a significant fine will be applied.
Although we have a restaurant open from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm offering delicious dinners, Joe’s Layover Hostel also has a shared kitchen for guests to use. We kindly ask that guests be respectful of others’ food and take any unused food with them when they leave. We are not responsible for any food left in the kitchen.
Yes, at Joe’s Layover Hostel, the water comes from Boquete’s public service, which is renowned for its high quality. Boquete is famous for having some of the purest and safest water in Panama, suitable for direct consumption. We encourage you to refill your bottles and enjoy this natural resource while helping reduce plastic use.
We can arrange transfers from Boquete, Bocas del Toro, Lost and Found, Santa Catalina, El Valle, and Panama City. If you’re at our sister location in David, you’ll enjoy a preferential rate when booking your transfer. Contact us for more details!
Once you arrive at Joe’s Layover Hostel, you’ll have access to our comprehensive Tour Book, where you’ll find a wide range of options to explore Boquete and its surroundings. Our team will be happy to share their personal recommendations and suggest the best activity for the day, depending on the weather conditions. No need to worry about booking tours before your trip; all tours and activities can be booked directly at our front desk the day before.
Yes, we occasionally offer volunteer opportunities, depending on our staffing needs. We are committed to creating a space where everyone can develop and grow, regardless of their background. This is a place where barriers disappear. We only accept volunteers through our application process. If you’re interested, please contact us via email before your arrival for more details.
Yes. We are located in Boquete, a region without water issues, which allows us to provide efficient laundry service. For $8.50, we will wash and dry your clothes. We offer a complete service, so it is not possible to request only one of the services; both are provided together.
At Joe’s Layover Hostel, we prioritize environmental care. Instead of hot showers, we offer a more eco-friendly experience with energy-efficient showers. This not only reduces our impact on the planet but also invites you to be part of a more responsible and conscious tourism experience.

Yes, we offer high-speed fiber optic WiFi, which ensures a fast and reliable connection in most cases. Additionally, we have Starlink as a backup for greater stability. On rare occasions, storms may affect the connection speed or even cause power outages. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause during your stay and appreciate your understanding.

At Joe’s Layover Hostel, we accept credit cards for your convenience. In Boquete, most activities allow card payments, so carrying cash is generally not necessary.

Our hostel has a cancellation policy designed to protect both our guests and our business:

During the following local and national holidays, no deposit refunds will be issued in the event of a cancellation:

  • Boquete Fair
  • Carnival
  • Holy Week
  • Panama Independence Days (November 1, 10, and 28)
  • Christmas and New Year

 

For all other pre-paid reservations, a penalty of up to one (1) day will be applied in case of cancellation.

Yes, there is an ATM just a 15-minute walk from Joe’s Layover Hostel! This allows you to access cash quickly and conveniently. Keep in mind that ATM fees may vary depending on your home bank, so it’s a good idea to check with your bank before making withdrawals.
Taxis in Boquete typically cost between $2 and $3 within the local area, though shared taxis are available for as little as $1. Rates may increase during nighttime hours. You can also choose local buses, which cost less than a dollar. If you need a taxi during the day, we’ll be happy to call one for you. The center of Boquete is about a 45-minute walk or a 3-minute drive from our hostel.
Joe’s Layover Hostel is located about a 13-minute drive from downtown Boquete, in the Alto Boquete area. This location offers a peaceful environment surrounded by nature, ideal for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings, while still allowing easy access to the town’s attractions and services.

No, Boquete doesn’t have many mosquitoes. However, there is a small insect known locally as the ‘coffee bug,’ which resembles a fruit fly. Don’t worry; it’s nothing that a bit of insect repellent can’t handle easily. Enjoy your stay without any concerns.
